Ciudad!!!!

Family,
Sorry it´s taken us so long to catch up with you all. We don´t have internet at our new house in the city, so this was the first time we´ve gotten to a computer. The house? AMAZING. The children? ADORABLE. Seriously. Coming to the city was the best decision ever.
Here´s a general layout: 19 kids, ages 2 to 16, 3 adults + 1 cook= insanity.
Beth and I have our own room right next to all of the boys(LOTS OF BOYS.... woah.) which didn´t afford us much sleep at first(well, that and the roosters, fireworks that go off every 5 minutes, and loud rain) but we´re getting used to it. Our room is amazing, and everyone is standing on their heads trying to make us feel at home.
Daily routine:
6am- wake up to screaming children(well, they technically wake us up around 4 or 5, but we ignore it until 6)
630- go down to help the girls get ready, and undoubtedly find that Dolce has wet the bed(AGAIN).
7- breakfast! Normally eggs and beans(DELICIOUS). We eat breakfast with the younger kids while the older ones are doing devotions together. At this point, Dolce normally pees her pants. Again. Can I also mention that we get Atol at breakfast AND dinner?!?! Atol is this delicious tea made out of plaintains. it´s like heaven in your mouth. One of us will walk with Amanda to get the bread...
8- all of the little boys go off to school(one of us will help walk them there), leaving the 3 older boys, 4 older girls, and 8 little ones. YEA.
9- We take the little ones outside to play for the next 4HOURS while the older ones do their chores. We swing. A LOT. At this point Dolce may or may not pee again. Never in the toilet, of course, despite how often we drag her there. We are offered little gross bugs every 15 seconds, despite how often we say ¨No, gracias¨O well. We are generally treated as jungle gyms, used as slides, monkey bars, swings, etc... Also, SNACK TIME!!!!(I´ve taught a few of the boys to say ÿummy¨)
12- Young boys come home. Chaos ensues. Someone starts bleeding, fists are thrown, etc.... Can I also say that these kids LOVE to hug??? Beth discovered that ¨Bear hug¨ translates to Spanish- ¨Abraso de oso!!!¨I ask for them hourly.
1- Lunch. YUM. Older ones go off to school.
2- Chaos.... we´re not exactly sure what is SUPPOSED to happen at this time, but we know what does- out of control chaos. Annnnnnnd we love it.
230- Naptime. Thank you Jesus. We sit in our room and listen to much needed English music..... Spanish is entirely overwhelming.
4- we regrettfully begin to hear wailing children....... dun dun DUN!!!!!!
415- annnnnnd everyone´s up again. But that´s ok, because now its television until dinner!!!!! We have watched every possible children´s show in spanish. It´s great- we make up our own plots, seeing as how we don´t understand a SINGLE WORD those little cartoon people are saying. Also, Dolce pees her pants again and we each have about 4 children on our laps, pulling our hair, using our legs as slides, sleeping on us, making us clap our hands, etc....- they think we are their little dolls.
6- DINNER!!! Most every meal consists of beans and eggs in some form, which we love. For dinner we escape to a different room for some much needed rest for our overwhelmed brains.
7- Bedtime(almost).... We´ve taught the older kids how to play Dutch Blitz(we´ve single handedly brought dutch blitz to Latin America!!!) we talk to the older girls and boys for a bit, teaching them english as they try to pantamime what they are talking about... we´re learning slowly.
8- We have successfully completed another day, HALLELUJAH!!!! It´s so much fun here, but SO exhausting. I sleep more than the children- it´s quite pathetic.

Funnyness:
The first day we were here I was watching a few boys and they were wrestling. I kept telling them to be careful, and they kept stopping and giving me a funny look. It was only after a few minutes that I realized I had been saying ¨ciudad!¨(city) instead of ¨cuidado!¨(caution). No wonder they weren´t listening....

Yesterday I found a worm in Samuelito´s hair. When I asked the older boys how it got there, Ricardo told me it fell from the sky. Yea right....

Bebe, a little 3 year old, mimics everything I say and do. She makes the same faces I do, and repeats everything I say. Such a little bugger....

Annnnnnd we haven´t seen another gringo since we got here.....

Other news....
Saturday morning we went to Antigua for breakfast. Seriously. We are sooooooo lucky. Woah. We walked around the markets and old buildings. GREATNESS.

Also, On friday all of the kids get to go to the pool, and we get to go too! We´re going with all of Casa Bernabe, which means we get to see the rest of our team!!! When we found that out, we started jumping up and down. The children MIGHT think we´re insane.....

Much love!
Morgan and Beth

  1. Dear Morgan and Beth,
May God continue to strengthen and bless you. Thank you so much for trusting the Lord with the decision to move to the city. I'm sure we'd all love to see a pic of the two of you when you get a chance, though with the schedule you described, that might be awhile :)

  2. Morgan and Beth! It's SO good to hear from you! I was wondering so much about your situation and you did a wonderful job of describing the typical day! It helps so much to visualize what you're doing and to know how to pray for you. You are so gracious about all the responsibilities even with all your fatigue. Everyone on the whole team is adjusting to the schedule and getting used to sleeping less with a lot of noise. By the end, all of you will feel pretty normal and won't hear every little sound....hopefully...kind of like living by a train track...you get used to it. What a great update. So glad you will all be together on Friday! Maybe that will be a good day for pictures!!! I'm with Linda on that...want to see you all!! Praying for patience, wisdom, and strength!

  3. Oh my gosh, I laughed til I cried reading this blog. Morgan you rock. Thanks for making me want to pee my pants (like Dolce, LOL!) from laughing so hard.

That's so stinkin cool that you get to go to the pool with the whole CB gang. Make a big splash for me... oh and please make sure Dolce doesn't pee in the pool. I'm just saying.... :)
