Good night children, good bye sanity (for some)

If you ask each member of our team how our last night went, you would get a lovely array of answers along a spectrum from "The kids were already asleep" to "When is Jesus coming back again?". The staff had a meeting last night and it was our job to go to the various houses and make sure the kids were successfully carted off to slumberland. For some children, such a journey is a wonderful event and they skip and smile toward the destination. For others, slumberland looks strikingly like a combination of Mordor and the dentist's office and so they made it their personal crusade to end anyone who would try to drag them there. Poor Emily. Hopefully her new found eye twitch will go away some day.

My kids were on good behavior so far as 9-12 year old boys understand that concept, and though they were rowdy and took a little while to get to bed it was ultimately one of the more enjoyable things I've done in a while. My Spanish isn't failing me as often as the first few days and I'm able to have some conversations with the kids and begin to get a feel for their personalities. I engaged in a lightsaber duel, which I lost (he cheated!), helped with the dishes, listened to them complain about how many hot dogs they have to eat (and how they're all past the expiration date), tucked a bunch of them in and got to pray with a couple (in Spanish!) before they slept.

Anyway, I gotta go. I imagine someone else will talk about their night...probably Emily once she wakes up from her stress induced coma (I'm kidding Mrs. Tuttle! You're daughter is fine, I just saw her with a girl in her arms looking awake).

  1. Ha...Matt, I knew even before you said it that Em was probably having a challenge with 18 children at Casa Samuel! I know that would be tough...sorry! Wish I could help... at least be an extra pair of loving arms!! :) Thanks for the update. Get your rest when you can! You all are in our prayers. We know God is growing you and using you to make such a beautiful difference in the lives of the children even if it's hard for you to tell...it's definitely a blessing to them.
