After a few hours of traveling, we have arrived safely at Casa Bernabe! Our flights were all on time and no baggage was lost- praise God! We were met at the airport by a large yellow bus... already full of people! A church group from Indiana was arriving just as we were. They'll be here for 2 weeks and will be focusing on different projects around the orphanage.
Once we got to Casa Bernabe we were greeted by Edgar, the projects manager. He gave us a quick orientation and tour and then sat down with our group to talk about what we will be doing for the next 7 weeks. Matt will be living with some of the men who work at the orphanage and he'll be focusing on maintenance. The girls were informed that 2 of us will be with the babies, 2 with the toddlers, 1 with an older group of kids, and 2 in the kitchen. Edgar then told us that 2 or 3 girls will not be staying here. The orphanage is over capacity(much of the reason for this is that US citizens are no longer able to adopt from Guatemala) and they have opened another home in the city. There are about 15 children living there with 2 house parents, and they need assistance. For the 2 or 3 of our team that goes there, they will live there and only come back when our team is able to travel for one weekend this summer.
No decisions have been made yet concerning who will go, but we knew from the beginning that we must be flexible(it's our new motto!). We are hear to BE a blessing, and we wish to serve with joy where we are needed. Please pray with us that God will make it clear who is to go, and that we would all have peace about the decision. We hate to break up this amazing team- I cannot imagine not seeing all of these wonderful people very day- but God knows far better than we do what our futures hold. Thank you for your prayers!

Hey Team,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your hearts are sad at having to break up the team, but I love to read how you are already focusing on God's plan and His will as being better than anything you could come up with. Thank you for your example of loving God more than yourselves and your preferences. We are praying for wisdom for the decision as well as a peace that passes understanding for all of you. Remember, Paul learned how to be content in prison and in great need (Phil. 4:12). The same grace is available to you.

Hey all,
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really tough news. I'll be praying for you all, and especially for the two girls who'll be moving to the city.
